A lieutenant in Buchan's voyage to Spitzbergen, 1818, and Parry's first voyage to the Arctic. 1819-1820. Sailed as commander of the Blossom by Bering Strait to Point Barrow, 1825-1828, discovering Arctic coast between lcy Cape and Point Barrow. Became president of the Royal Geographical Society, 1856.
