Came to Upper Canada in 1820 as receiver general after a stint in the East India Service in London. He was receiver general until 1843. Member of the Executive Council in 1836 and the Legislative Council, 1822-1841. He was at times president of the Welland Canal Co, director of the British America Fire and Life assurance Co, director of the Home District Savings Bank and Trustee of the Home District. He sat on the directorate of the Bank of Upper Canada in 1822-1823, 1826-1836, 1841, 1843-1845. Avoid Mr. Dunn"(from the confidential memorandum of Sir F. B.
